It’s that time of year again—when people reflect on everything that has happened during the past 12 months. They remember all the changes that happened, the progress they made, and the accomplishments they achieved. The end of the year is known as a time for reflection; and during this time of reflection, many people also ponder what they want to improve. This is where New Year's resolutions come into play.

According to statisticbrain.com, the University of Scranton published the Top 10 New Year’s resolutions in the Journal of Clinical Psychology. They reported that losing weight is the number one New Year's resolution.  They also shared that 45 percent of Americans usually make a New Year’s resolution. If you are among this 45 percent, it is likely that one of your resolutions will be to slim down.

If your ultimate goal is to lose weight, check out the 4 resolutions below. They will help you start your journey to a slimmer you.

1. Cut Just One

During the holidays, there are cookies, pies, pastries, and all other kinds of deserts everywhere. (Sometimes it feels like you’re surrounded!) A great way to kick start losing weight is to have one less. Eat one less cookie, one less glass of eggnog, one less helping of the caloric treat you find yourself gravitating to too much. By simply cutting the deserts you eat by one, you are helping your overall calorie count. All those calories will add up as the days go by, and you will be less likely to gain those extra pounds the holidays are known for.

2. Clean Out Your Kitchen

When it comes to losing weight, we all know which junk foods and treats are counterproductive to our weight loss goal. Avoiding these foods is a MUCH easier task if the food is not in your kitchen, tempting you. If you clean out your refrigerator, pantry, and snack cabinet at the beginning of the year and then keep yourself from buying them again, you will find that you will crave those unhealthy foods less and less as time goes by.

3. Stop Drinking Calories

Beverages like soda, juices, and energy drinks are often full of calories. If you eliminate them from your diet and drink more water you will be well on your way to losing weight. Going over your calorie count happens much faster because of drinks. People sometimes don't consider their drinks as agents that count towards their calorie count and then they go over.

4. Get Rid of Baggy Clothes

Once you find your weight decreasing, go through your closet and start getting rid of your clothes that are becoming baggy. If you know in the back of your mind that you have bigger clothes, it will make it more difficult for you to stay on track. Losing weight is just as mental as it is physical, if not more so. Don’t give yourself an excuse!
