When it comes to eating healthy and staying on a specific diet regimen, sometimes it can be difficult to continually turn your head away from "junk" food. Unhealthy foods, after all, are all around us, almost calling out our names. Resisting the urge to have that donut at work or that delicious burger for dinner can become old really pretty quickly.

If you are having a difficult time resisting “junk” food or that favorite, unhealthy meal of yours, you have come to the right place!

According to many dietitians, such as Jim White, a registered dietitian and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, “cheating” on your diet every once in awhile can actually help you.

White, who was interviewed by livestrong.com, shared his insight with cheating on a diet.

According to White, “cheating” on your diet will not only help you hold onto your level-headedness and sanity, but it can also push you over your weight-loss plateau.

White told livestrong.com that, “after several days of consuming fewer calories than you burn, splurging can rev up your metabolism while stocking up glycogen for tomorrow's workout. It should also satisfy cravings that may nag at your daily diet.”

A great way to successfully cheat on your diet is to have a designated cheat day. On this cheat day, take one meal and eat something indulging. Have some fries, a cookie, or even some chocolate. However, make sure that when you do this, you don’t have too much.

The key to “cheating” on your diet and not gaining weight is to make sure you don’t go overboard when you do cheat. (Moderation, moderation, moderation!)

Keep this in mind while you stick to your diet.

“Cheating” every so often can be a good thing if done properly!
