In an ingenious DIY twist, you can use normal household items instead of buying standard weights!

Some might even argue that by using these household items instead of the usual hide-away weights, you will be reminded more often how easy it is to squeeze in a quick workout!

Think about it: you're sifting through your cabinet when you see two cans of soup. Instead of merely seeing lunch, you could also be reminded of trying out some squats with your weights! While you are doing some squats, simply hold your arms straight in front of you while holding the two cans. You'll never forget a squeeze in some workout-time again!

There are plenty of other items that can work as weights. Check out the list below:

1. A can of soup can replace a one pound weight. Easy!

2. Salad dressing can easily replace a one pound weight. Try to get one that you store in the cabinet so you don't accidentally spoil your dressing!

3. A bundle of 10 spoons can replace a one pound weight, as well. Simply stack 10 spoons together, and tie them together with a hair tie or a rubber band.

4. Instead of a two pound weight, try a carton of soy milk. Just be sure to use the kind that doesn't need to be refrigerated--besides the fact that cold cartons of milk can make your hands slippery, you want to be sure you are spoiling your food with your hot hands!

5. Try a small bag of rice for a two pound weight. Try to get a bag with some kind of grip, though! A large bag of rice can replace a five pound weight, too!

6. A bag of apples makes for an easy three pound weight. Try to get a bag that is netted. Otherwise, be sure to staple the bag shut so the apples don't accidentally fall out! You can also try using a bag of mandarin oranges if you prefer!

7. In lieu of a bag of apples, try a bag of onions for a three pound weight! Just be sure to put the onions in a plastic bag so they don't shed everywhere.

8. Try a bottle of Ketchup instead of a four pound weight! Be sure to get the one made of the refrigerator door, as those have a better grip than others, and they are also heavy enough to be four pounds.

9. 'Tis the season! Use a medium pumpkin instead of a 4 or 5 pound weight! If you want to be sure of the weight, simply use the scales at the grocery store before you buy it!

10. A standard bag of flour can easily be used as a five pound weight--but be sure to put the contents into a plastic bag so you don't make a mess!

11. Try a gallon of water or milk as an eight pound weight! Although we would recommend the water in lieu of milk, after grocery shopping, you can always do a few reps while you're bringing the milk in from the car!

12. Last but not least, laundry detergent can be the perfect replacement for a 10 pound weight. Since it has a perfectly placed handle, it's perfect to use for lunges!

What do you think about this list? What would you use in replace of weights? Let us know in the comments below!
