In a world of fad diets, juicing, and weird protein powders, getting a simple answer when it comes to food can be difficult and time consuming.

However, no one will deny that good old-fashioned, unprocessed, whole foods is your best bet to lose a few inches. Even if you are not looking to loose weight, knowing which foods can naturally suppress your appetite is a handy tool when traveling, at work, and when you need a quick pick me up without a full-on meal.

Read on to see the best foods to help hold you over until dinner time!

1. Almonds. These awesome little nuts are so fabulous, they had to go on the top of our list. Not only do you only need a small handful to satiate your appetite, they are one of the top super foods everyone is buzzing about. Because of the healthy fats, the high dose of protein, and the amazing fiber, these are the perfect snack to always have tucked away in your purse.

2. Flax Seed. Yet another fabulous super food that has all the hype it deserves. Ground flax seeds have an incredible amount of fiber: three grams per tablespoon! Make sure to gradually add it into your diet, and you’ll feel more satisfied throughout the day. Add ground flax seeds to smoothies, yogurt, or cereal!

3. Coffee. Caffeine is actually commonly used as one of the active ingredients in diet pills (sometimes to a fairly dangerous degree). It is best to sip on some black coffee (with little to no sugar) so that your blood sugar does not spike, causing you to be hungrier sooner.

4. Green Tea. Nutritionists say that the catechins in green tea help to inhibit the movement of glucose into fat cells, which slows the rise of blood sugar and prevents high insulin and subsequent fat storage. It also helps keep you from mindless snacking, and the naturally occurring caffeine also helps suppress your appetite.

5. Cayenne Pepper. Spicy foods is where it is at! This awesome pepper boosts the metabolism, which in turn causes the body to burn an extra 10 calories on its own! Not only that, new research has emerged that found that people who add cayenne pepper to their meal at 60 calories less on their next meal! Just dash half a teaspoon of this stuff on a meal twice a day for a month and you will lose four pounds without even trying! Not your thing? Swap it out for some hot sauce. The hotter, the better!

6. Dark Chocolate. Two small pieces of dark chocolate also have the same effect as a small cup of coffee. Make sure it is dark, though, as it will keep your blood sugar fairly stable while getting a sweet treat, too!

7. Eggs. In recent studies, it's been shown that eating eggs for breakfast will help you feel more full for the rest of the day than if you ate something full of carbohydrates (like a bagel or a muffin). That means you'll end up eating less all day because you'll feel full.

8. Apples. This amazing fruit is full of soluble fiber, which helps you feel fuller longer. They are also quite hydrating, meaning that the juicy water fills up your stomach and helps you feel fuller!

9. Avocados. Because avocados are packed full of healthy mono- and poly-unsaturated fats, they'll help you stay satisfied long after you've finished.
