While it’s perfectly normal to feel bloated occasionally, if you need to unbutton your pants after every single meal, the problem may have a lot more to do with your digestion.

A bloated belly isn’t just a problem when it comes to fitting into your bikini—it’s also uncomfortable.

More often than not, your bloated belly is probably accompanied by stomach cramping, gas, and even diarrhea.

There are plenty of different ways to ease the annoying symptoms of bloating, but you’ll be a lot better off if you try to stop it in its tracks first.

Here are 3 things you must do to get rid of a bloated belly for good:

  1. Eat More Parsley: You probably ignore this pretty garnish when you see it on your plate at restaurants, but you might want to start stocking up on it. Packed with vitamin K, vitamin C, and vitamin A, parsley is a lot healthier than we give it credit for. Many nutritionists recommend replacing lettuce in sandwiches and wraps with parsley, as it is believed to reduce water retention—a.k.a. belly bloat.
  2. Start Eating Fruit & Yogurt: Have you ever felt a little gassy after eating a pear or apple? That’s probably because these fruits are extremely high in fructose, a common sugar that can irritate your stomach. Instead of cutting fruit from your diet completely, health experts say you can reduce the gastrointestinal irritation by pairing it with low-fat plain yogurt. The good bacteria in yogurt can help bring about some balance in your gut, while the fat can slow the quick flow of carbs in the small intestine.
  3. Eat Veggies First: If you really want to stop feeling bloated after every meal, then eat all the veggies on your plate before touching anything else. Rich in fiber and nutrients, vegetables can help kick-start digestion and make your stomach feel full at the same time. If you have a hard time eating raw veggies, try eating them pureed or in soup instead.
