Nothing can discourage you from sticking to a well-planned diet quite like finding out that the healthy foods you’ve come to know and love aren’t so healthy after all.

For most of us, it’s such a pain to sacrifice our love of chocolate and fries for a diet full of fresh fruits and veggies.

So, when it comes time to start eating healthy, at the very least you’re going to buy foods that look appealing.

Fresh fruits like apples are especially nice because they’re so shiny, smoothe, crisp, and sweet at the same time.

But have you ever wondered why some apples seem to shine, while others actually look pretty dull?

It’s almost as if the prettiest apples have been dunked in wax…and that’s because they are!

Many grocery stores cover their apples in wax to keep them fresh for longer periods of time, but it’s not for your benefit.

Unsurprisingly, it’s not healthy for humans to consume harmful wax and other risky preservatives.

That’s why we’re so glad to see that someone is finally speaking out about this disturbing storage process.

In the video below, YouTuber Waqar Ahmed pours boiling hot water over a shiny apple to demonstrate how much wax is really caked on.

The results are absolutely disgusting, but this experiment is definitely something to keep in mind next time you pick up apples from the store.

See how much wax comes off a shiny apple in the video below now!
