We all know that feeling of dread the moment after realizing your glasses aren’t exactly where you thought you left them.

Depending on just how bad your vision is, you may be stumbling around the room for seconds, minutes, or worse.

Misplacing your glasses can seriously ruin your whole day, but it doesn’t have to!

A short clip created by MinutePhysics demonstrates exactly how you can easily see perfectly without your glasses.

According to the video, simply making your hands into a tunnel—creating a tiny pinhole to peer through—instantly improves vision.

“Just make a tiny, tiny hole with your fingers. Look through it and your vision will be clear again,” the video says. “This works no matter how blurry your vision is. Take off your glasses and give it a try.”

As The Daily Mail reports, Dr. David Allamby, a laser eye surgeon at London’s Focus clinics, says most scientists have known about the so-called “pinhole effect” since 5th century B.C. in China.

By focusing light solely on the retina—the most sensitive part of the eye, where images are formed—anything you see will immediately look sharp and clear.

“From a young age if we can’t see we squint or drop the top eyelid down to create a pinhole effect,” Dr. Allamby told The Daily Mail. “Making a tube with the fingers has the same effect – it focuses light on the retina.”

Because using this technique would only allow you to see through a tiny hole, it’s important to note that the pinhole effect is in no way a substitute for glasses.

But if you ever find yourself in a bit of a pinch and need to track down your glasses fast, this can work wonders!

See how it’s done in the video below now!
