A mother in China has been left heartbroken after her baby boy was born with an extremely rare eye condition that means he has very little eye tissue.

According to the People’s Daily Online, the newborn has been diagnosed with Anophthalmia, a rare condition that has left him without the ability to see.

Since he was born on September 20th, Liu Peihua’s son has been dubbed “the baby with no eyes” by the mainstream media.

The young mother’s family say Peihua attended every prenatal checkup and was never once told of any abnormalities in her son’s screenings.

According to The Daily Mail, the reason the baby’s condition was not spotted earlier is likely because it cannot be seen in any tests during pregnancy.

As CRI reports, the family is now waiting to find out if their son has any other health issues associated with the rare condition.

Although there is currently no treatment for Anophthalmia, like other babies with the condition, Peihua’s son will likely be fitted for artificial eyes.

As for Peihua and her family, they are determined to give their baby a normal childhood despite the odds against him.

Anophthalmia reportedly affects 30 in every 10,000 children, according to the People’s Daily Online.
