Alfie Abbott, 11 years old, received a henna tattoo on his arm as his birthday present that was held at a Thomas Cook all-inclusive family resort. The henna tattoo, which took the form of tribal swirls in black, looked like the typical ones almost all people normally get. They were on a holiday in Tukey, The Sun reports.
Moments later, Alfie’s arm began to burn up and he ended up with huge blisters that replaced the henna tattoo. They spent almost $50 on the tattoo. The little boy was rushed to the burns unit of a hospital after he suffered from a toxic shock due to a reaction to the dye.
Louise Abbott, the boy’s mom, criticized the hotel for offering henna tattoo in its parlor located at the Eftalia Splash Resort in Konakli.
Louise said, “Pretty much as soon as we got home he was in agony and he was really itchy. Then he got a rash all over his body and his face started to swell up. We had to rush him to hospital, we didn’t know what was going on. Doctors said he went into toxic shock and his arm won’t stop weeping and the burns have left the tattoo blistered into his arm. He’s been in agony.”
Alfie, who’s from Nottingham, had been going back and forth Queen’s Medical Center since he got the tattoo.
Louise said, “Doctors said the reaction was on the highest scale. It’s disgusting, you’d think they would do checks on what goes on in hotels they are sending people to. He now faces years of trips to hospital to try to do something about the scarring that covers his arm.”
Thomas Cook gave admission that they don’t necessarily recommend to their customers to get henna tattoos offered at their hotels.
A spokesperson for Thomas Cook said, “We know how important a holiday is to our customers, and are most concerned to learn of the negative reaction to a henna tattoo sustained by Master Abbott after his holiday in Turkey earlier this month.
“We wish Master Abbott a full recovery following his experience, and invite his parents to contact us in haste so that we can address their complaint directly and personally.”
Six years ago, The Sun covered a story about a boy, who was only three years old, from Bristol suffered from damaging scars after he got a henna tattoo while he was spending time on his holidays.
